Abstract |
La Guyane française, territoire de 84000 km² sur le continent sud américain est
couverte de forêts tropicales humides sur plus de 95 % de sa superficie ; ce qui en fait le plus vaste massif forestier de France et de l’Union Européenne. A l’heure des préoccupations liées à la déforestation et aux changements climatiques, l’origine et le devenir de ces forêts tropicales sont au centre des études scientifiques actuelles. Mais, si les déterminants physiques et biologiques de ces forêts ont été et sont encore largement étudiés, il n’en est pas de même des déterminants historiques probablement essentiels à la compréhension de ces
écosystèmes forestiers.
L’étude proposée ici s’intègre dans le projet pluridisciplinaire COUAC financé par le programme « Amazonie 2 » du CNRS, et s’intéresse en conséquence aux impacts des
occupations amérindiennes anciennes sur la diversité des forêts et sur les propriétés des sols de la frange côtière guyanaise. Une première approche de modélisation, nous a alors permis d’évaluer l’influence de différentes variables spatiales et environnementales sur la répartition des sites d’occupations anciennes afin de proposer une cartographie des zones anciennement les plus impactées par l’Homme à l’échelle de la Guyane. Puis une seconde approche,
d’analyses de sols à l’échelle régionale et de végétation à l’échelle locale, nous a permis de mettre en évidence la présence d’impacts visibles au sein de la forêt actuelle et d’identifier des marqueurs pédologiques et floristiques de ces occupations humaines passées. |
